Ouchita Rod & Gun Club

Mission & Story

Arkansas is indeed “The Natural State” with 9,700 miles of fishable streams and rivers, 600,000 acres of lakes and over 2.9 million acres of forestland. Hot Springs Village, situated near the heart of the state, has easy access to it all.

The Ouachita Rod & Gun Club was formed  to take advantage of the diverse hunting and fishing opportunities the state has to offer.

Fishing in Arkansas is a year-round sport.  Depending on the season and region, you can find a variety of bass, trout, wall-eye, bream, crappie, catfish and more.

The White River is a trout fishing paradise with weather and water temperatures perfect for year-round trout fishing. Catching rainbow, brown cutthroat and brook trout on the tail waters of the Norfork  and White Rivers has been one of the club’s favorite events.  Anglers can also find trout in Bull Shoals, Beaver, Ouachita and Greers Ferry dams.

Lake Ouachita is the largest lake in the state and one of our closest neighbors. It covers 40,000 acres and has crooked, rugged shorelines and plenty of islands. The many shallow areas provide excellent feeding for bass, including the hybrid striper.

With an abundance of large and small game, hunters love Arkansas.  Duck hunting along the Mississippi Flyway in the Arkansas Delta is almost legendary. But the most popular game is the whitetail deer, with an estimated population of one million. Other game species include elk, black bear, turkey and alligator.

Visit the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission for detailed information on hunting seasons, bag limits, fishing information and outdoor resources.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Jep Thibault, an Arkansas native, has been hunting and fishing most of his life. While growing up, his family had a cabin on Calion Lake and Gran Mare Lake on the lower Ouachita River. Jep's Dad taught him to hunt and fish, and his Uncle Henry introduced Jep to fly fishing. (Uncle Henry could make flies out of just about anything!) Jep's favorite sport, though, is duck hunting - he loves watching the birds fly in and a good retriever earn his keep. His advise to new duck hunters: Keep your head down, and when a bird responses to a call, remember to go back to it. Jep has been part of the ORGC since its beginning. He is also a member of Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl and the NRA.
